On the morning of Friday, January 8, 2016, I woke up with Jovie to get her ready for pre-school. I was two days past my due date (even though a few weeks ago the doctor said I would go into labor early, for sure.) I could tell that morning was different, and I knew we would have a baby soon! Around 8 am, I was sure I was going into labor. I hopped into the shower for like a four minute wash, and then told Mike to get ready. It was time to go to the hospital!
Jovie really wanted to go to pre-school, and fussed about it. But given how quickly she had come (and how nervous Mike was about that) we decided to put our birthing plan into motion. I called Tiff as Mike was loading Jovie into the car. She was going to take Jovie. She asked if she should meet us at the house or hospital, and I said "hospital!" By about 8:30 we were driving to the hospital. I was trying really hard not to show how much pain I was in, as it kept both Mike and Jovie calmer.
We arrived at the hospital, and Mike had to stay in the waiting area with Jovie until Tiff got there, so I took care of signing myself in. It was very different than when I arrived with Jovie to the hospital in VA. They immediately knew I was deep into labor and they rushed me back. Here at Virtua Voorhees Hospital in NJ, they seemed to be moving very slowly. It probably wasn't that slow, but I was definitely wishing it was faster. Mike warned them that I would progress quickly, if it was anything like with Jovie. And he was right. Just like with Jovie, I arrived at the hospital 8 cm dilated.
I went back into the room, got myself changed (Mike was still in the waiting room) and got ready for the exam in the triage room. They gave me the exam right before Mike arrived into the room, and decided to immediately move me back to labor and delivery. There were a lot of questions about whether I wanted a room with a birthing tub. I said sure, and Mike said there wouldn't be time. He was right. Tiff arrived around 9:30 to get Jovie, Mike and I moved back to labor and delivery, and an on-call doctor came immediately to my room as my own doctor was in a C-section. Irie wasn't going to wait. The doctor came into the room (round 10 am, probably?), did the exam, asked me if I was ready to push, broke my water and said "This is going to be minutes, not hours."
Irie Kylynn Traylor was born at 10:28 am, 9lbs, 6 oz and 21.5 inches. She was beautiful and lovely, and we were happy!
Later in the afternoon, Tiff brought Jovie and Annie to meet Irie and they brought cupcakes and flowers and cards. It was so sweet and fun to show her off to her big sister and her first visitors!
Then they left for a bit, and later she came back with Molly and Jovie.
When Tiff came back the second time, Irie was wrapped up just lying in her little crib. Tiff was impressed and commented on how calm and chill she was. It was good affirmation for exhausted parents, wondering whether we were crazy or remembering our first day with Jovie very differently, or whether she really was a very calm baby.
It was a great day, that day. We are sooo glad you are healthy and vibrant, Irie, and we love you soooo much!!

We could tell right away that she was a different baby from Jovie. She was calm but alert, sweet and pretty quiet for a newborn! We spent lots of hours fawning over her, just Mike and I.
This was her first bath. They waited several hours after she was born to give her the bath to help regulate body temperature. This was different from our experience with Jovie.
Such a proud and sweet big sister!
Our first family photos
Then they left for a bit, and later she came back with Molly and Jovie.
This was from Molly's snapchat. She was saying some pretty adorable things, and letting everyone know how fragile Irie was and how to hold her.
Lots of snuggles for Irie
This is my favorite "first" photo of the two of them.
And lots of admiration
Molly was the first to dub Irie "Squishy" and she lived into her nickname well.
