Sweet Heart

She has always been really smart, and physically strong and healthy, but it has been so sweet to get to witness Jovie's little heart begin to learn and grow lately.  There have been some really sweet moments over the past several weeks.

She likes to read a couple of her Bibles "by herself" now, and she'll lay on her back, hold the Bible up and "read" it, saying things like "The Lord made God" in a very serious voice.  And she'll start saying little phrases like "and then," or "at first," and then will make up a bunch of words.  I know she's really small to understand, but it's so sweet to watch the early tuggings of God on her heart.

At my IJM baby shower, they were giving child-rearing advice, and one of my friends told me something that one of the ladies at her church had told her.  She said that her children often opened up to her at night when they were lying in their beds, with the lights off.  She would lay on the floor next to their beds, and periodically her kids would open up their hearts. I thought I had several years until this happened.  But a few times over the last weeks, when I sit on the floor next to her crib to sing her songs after the lights are out, she'll say something like, "Mama, can we talk about Jesus?"  Or "Mama, can I talk to you?"  Or "Mama, can I tell you about the Bible?"  And her vocabulary isn't as advanced as her mind, but she'll try to open up her little heart.  She'll say things like "Jesus made the sheep, and the snakes, and you, and me, and berries..."  Or she'll tell me her thoughts about the day, like "I went to the pool" or "I got scared".  And while these may not seem like profound moments, I have been really cherishing them.

I am so blessed by this little one!
